How Grassy Is The Land?
Grass is going to be the main source of food and nutrition for your livestock. If the land doesn't have much grass, then keep looking until you find one that does. Depending on what area you're searching for land, the grass can vary depending on how wet that area is. The more rainfall and humidity, the more grass, keep that in mind when deciding. 

Where is the water source located?
If there's a spring on the property that you can tap into, that would be your best bet. If not, a well can get the job done too. If you have a property nearby your house, running a hose may get you by, but it will show in your water bill. This is also only a suitable solution if you only have a handful of animals.

Back to the water source, it's crucial to know how much you'll need for each livestock animal on your ranch. Try to keep it in this range to make sure your livestock are well hydrated. Keep in mind, the size of the animal determines how much or how little they need.

Cows - 5-30 gallons
Horse - 5-10 gallons
Sheep - 1-1.5 gallons

Building Structures For Your Livestock
Your livestock will need somewhere to take shelter in case of predators, extreme weather, and other random occurrences. This could be the place where you feed them as well. Building a small pen or bard style structure may come as a challenge if you aren't handy. Go on youtube and learn how to build one yourself or find a handyman to do it for you, either one works.

Don't Build On A Flood Plain
Make sure this area isn't on a flood plain, many people find out that they built their structure on the wrong spot after a major storm. Do your research, don't end up like one of these tragic stories. This also applies to extreme heat or cold, or any other inclement weather your region may face.

Are there predators in the area?
When raising livestock, you're exposed to mother nature every day. That means in the middle of the night, a hungry animal could come through the fence and harm your livestock. It's unfortunate when it happens but take it as a learning lesson to make your permitter more secure.
